Equipment Needed: Transmitter and Receiver An Operator Yellow Marking Flags Ground Rod Black and Red Connecting Cables Here are the following instructions in order to successfully locate underground natural gas piping. Step 1: Before you can begin locating, you must check your split box locator. It is important to make sure your split box locator is working correctly. Checking your battery is the first thing you would check, weak batteries is the most common problem for split box locator not operating correctly. Now after you have checked your equipment and everything is ready to go, you are ready to hook up the locator. Step 2: Open the split box locator. One half of the box consists of the transmitter and the other half is the receiver. Once you have opened the box, inside the box you will find a ground rod and black and red connecting cables.
